Intermediate trainer aircraft Kiran of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on display in the HAL Museum in Bangalore in southern India. The HJT-16 Kiran is an Indian two-seat intermediate jet-powered trainer aircraft designed and manufactured by aircraft company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The Kiran was developed at the behest of the Indian Air Force, who sought a new intermediate trainer aircraft for its pilots. HAL's design team devised a relatively conventional trainer- according to author Chris Smith, their design was closely modeled on the BAC Jet Provost, an existing British jet trainer.
