The paintings were mostly from mythology

A closer view of two of the scores of miniature paintings which adorn the interior walls of the Chitta Akhara/ Ganga raam Akhara, another of those informal schools where various subjects were taught. (see notes in previous captions about Akhara Sangalwala earlier in this album). The two paintings seen here bear a distinct Hindu theme. To the left is the Hindu elephant headed god Ganesh, surprisingly rendered in black- Ganesh is generally a happy chap, associated with removal of obstacles for the Hindus. To the right is the Hindu monkey god Hanuman. Note however that all the script seen is in the Punjabi language. (Amritsar, Punjab, northern India, Nov. 2017)
