Nude - Blatant Exhibitionism
The 'Nude' series are images that explore themes of identity, psychology, self analysis, the figure and voyeurism. The finished pieces are Digital Prints that are comprised of drawings, photography and digital painting and collage.
The series was created for a group exhibition based on the figure 'Nude – Blatant Exhibitionism' in The Kenny Gallery in Galway in 2011. My aim with these works was to focus more on the idea of being naked and exposed and vunerable as a person, as opposed to just depict the nude figure. Drawing from the life model involves intense observation and skill in transcribing these observations onto the page. I am a printmaker and as with most prints, source material is used as part of the process. It evolves and is adapts until the finished image arrives.
I scanned these life drawings and used them them in compositions create purely on the computer. I combined these with images of animals, old anatomy etchings, astronomy, and landscapes. I was inspired by surrealist and fantasy illustrations as well as classical paintings.
