Hecate is the Greco-Roman goddess of crossroads and witchcraft. She has also been variously associated with the moon, childbirth, thresholds, torches, the underworld and ghosts. From the Hellenistic period on she has been frequently represented in triple form. In her darker aspect as a master of black magic and curses she is seen entwined with snakes.
