BGMEA demolition
After numerous delays and rescheduling, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association. (BGMEA) building, is finally about to be demolished. Eight years after the high court declared it illegal, the building, built illegally on partially filled land in Begunbari canal, still stands tall despite many illegal buildings having been demolished by RAJUK over this period. The demolition, while delayed, still marks a win for Bangladeshi environmentalists who have long been campaigning for its removal. 12:00 pm Tuesday 16th April 2019. Dhaka.
