Chacoan Peccaries
The Chacoan Peccary was first identified from fossil remains discovered in the 1930's, but it was not until 1975 that scientists confirmed that it was not ext...inct, making it one of the most recently discovered large mammals.
Residing on the high plains of the Gran Chaco, these peccaries use their leathery snouts to roll cacti on the ground to remove the spines before eating. Chaocan peccaries are endangered due to habitat fragmentation and destruction, as well as hunting.
