Hanging out in bed / Thirteen Things
Watching TV shows with the Goddess Billie. On a side note, this is the first shot of my wife with her new hair. Just a few days ago she cut off 13" and donated it to a company that makes wigs for children that have permanent or long term hair loss. Everyone won on that deal, Billie gets a new look and some little kid gets a new do...
Thirteen things about me that may or may not be known…
#1. I met my wife when I was 21. We both worked at a 1 hour photo lab / portrait studio. When we met we were both dating other people. Secretly I pined away (she is a stunning woman). We both had broken up with our others and by happenstance ended up going to a company sponsored baseball game. I got drunk and kissed her. She thought it was just because I was drunk but I persisted over the next couple of days and we ended up dating. I knew within a month or so that I wanted to marry her. Thirteen years later we are still together.
#2. While I have attended 3 colleges I never completed a degree. The last 3 jobs that I have had listed a BA as a requirement but I have managed to get around it. The schooling that I have is in Auto Diesel Mechanics and Fine Arts but for the last 6 years I have worked as a web/database developer. Sometimes I feel guilty that some people spend tens of thousands of dollars to get a degree to do what I do and I am self educated with no college debt.
#3 With the exception of clothes that are gifted to me, I buy almost all of my clothing from second hand stores. My family makes a pretty fair living and I could certainly afford to buy my stuff new but I get all willy-nilly about money and the idea that I am paying a lot for something that some kid in Laos got 24 cents to make. I feel funny about this at work because tend to spend a lot of time in the executive circle and see their high end stuff and feel as though they are judging my shabbiness. In the end I feel the best about not participating in “The System”
#4 Ah, “The System” I am very anti-establishment, to a point of great distain. I have struggled with this for years as it will sometimes consume me and make me depressed and bitter. This goes for religion, government, business, et cetera. The most ardent distain that I feel is for my fellow American. I get very angry that we have become who we are as a people. I hope that “Generation Next” can manage to muster themselves to revolution, my generation and my parents were just a bunch of selfish whining pussys.
#5 My family came from Newfoundland. They were cod and squid fishermen in the little town of Aspen Cove from 1808 to 1921. When I am feeling pissy about #4, I sometimes think about what life would be like as a simple fisherman.
#6 When I was 18 I spent three days in jail for a little stunt I pulled my senior year in high school. I wont go into details but in the end a locker was ablaze and I was responsible. I was never in any real trouble and trusted the principle when he said “tell me what happened and I wont involve the police” So I told him exactly what happened and he thanked me and picked up the phone and called the police. They charged me with 3 misdemeanors and a felony arson charge. My lawyer managed to get it knocked down to a single criminal endangering charge and I went off to the pokey. It was a fantastic indoctrination into adulthood. I know it sounds like a fucked up story but If I could go back, I would change a thing.
#7 I have a brother that is on death row for multiple murders. He is a half brother and I really didn’t spend much time with him but I have had to struggle with this "genetic monster" concept (sharing genes with a demon) thing for years. I took me a long time to come to grips with the idea that I was normal.
#8 I have a horrible diet. Most days I eat one meal, dinner. I am usually too busy or too lazy to worry about lunch so I just keep working and when I get home I am starving. When I sit down to eat I usually have a couple helpings of whatever meat is being served and that is about it. I don’t eat vegetables or other sides so I am probably seriously deficient in lots of stuff. Oddly, I am terribly healthy.
#9 I can sleep through anything and nap just about anywhere at any time that I want. In spite of this I am usually so busy with things that I don’t bother.
#10 You can see my heart beating through my chest (just under my pectoral to the left the skin is constantly pulsating) and through a vein on my right hand. I have never seen this before so I think it might be an oddity.
#11 I can pour milk into my nostril and shoot it out of my tear duct. I saw this on a TV show one time and had to try it. The world record for this is six feet. Someday I would like to break this record.
#12 My personal hero is Abraham Maslow. I think that his contribution to humanity was one of the most profound gifts ever bestowed. His work is largely ignored even though the concepts are so simple that a child could fathom them. Thomas Jefferson. is a close second immediately followed by Gandhi
#13 Honesty is my most prized value. It is such a black and white thing that I end up resenting/hating people who I find t be dishonest.
