Vikingr Skye-Forn Sidr-Upsalla & The Nine Worlds

love my Vikings! I love everything about them, the culture, the period, the folklore, the weapons and the customs. Earlier this year I had did part 1 with lots of blood that didn’t end up working out so well but the guys I worked with saved the shoot for sure as did the ocean! They were incredible! This time I kinda wanted to take it to a more spiritual, fantastical and primal level. The Temple at Uppsala was a religious center in the ancient Norse religion once located at what is now Gamla Uppsala (Swedish "Old Uppsala"). Since it no longer exists the visual had to be built from the ground up by only of what we know trying to be as historically accurate as we can. Forn Sidr, the old customs that are still embraced today! In Norse Mythology, there are nine worlds, and these are divided into three levels. In the first level is Asgard, the home of the Aesir. Vanaheim, the home of the Vanir. Alfheim, the home of the Light Elves. In the middle is Midgard "Middle Earth", the home of the Humans. Midgard is connected to Asgard by Bifrost "The Rainbow Bridge". Jotunheim, the home of the Giants. Svartalfheim, the home of the Dark Elves. Nidavellir, the home of the Dwarfs. Niflheim is to the north, somewhere in Niflheim under the ground is Helheim home of the dead. Muspelheim is to the south, it is the home of the fire Giants and Demons. The complexity reminds me of Tolkien and its no doubt that he borrowed many of his themes from Viking history.

There were many behind the scenes that let us borrow weapons and clothes for this shoot! Without them it wouldn’t have been as awesome as it was! Special thanks to Jaime and The Midgard Armory for all the amazing things he let us borrow! I wish he could have been there with us! Also thanks to Rich Polymathic,Jaesun Duggan, Henry Peihong Tsai, Jesse Bolin and Dee Spiliako for all the items they donated too!

….Everyone involved with this shoot, pure awesomeness! The shield maidens and the berserkers and those behind the scenes! Old friends and new ones, they totally brought it and showed everyone what it means to be Viking! What a way to end 2015!
