Ant Head @ 20x Magnification - New Nikon 20x M 0.4 PLAN
Hi guys !
Here, I managed to get a very very cheap, £40 pounds infact, Nikon M PLAN 20x.
On the front glass there are a few scratches, these are making for a worse image quality that hoped but to be honest I'm too skint to buy the £100 on ebay...
This image was compiled from 100 images and then cropped.
Few minor issues such as CA at 20x I noticed and alignment is also very hard, also I did not move in small enough increments so Will need to watch out for these on my next stack !
Very hard to get the lighting right for this stack indeed because of the white hairs on the ants face ...
I overcame this issue by using the normal lighting method but moved the LED lamps further away and compromised with a 4 second Exposure time.
In experimenting I also discovered a faster shutter speed, such as 1/10, makes for 4x worse quality images than a long exposure time (considering shake of course) so I did just that !
Not overly happy with this, though it was my first attempt with my new 20x, going to have loads of fun diving into the world of such small insects, mites, moth wings etc etc and can't wait to share them with you all..
