Vespula vulgaris

This yellow jacket or more well known wasp was on my window sill already dead, most likely killed by a family member through fright...

 

I used to myself be afraid of these flying stinging machines but up close - they really are some of the most beautiful insects in the UK.

 

The flash could have been on a higher setting but i'm happy with the outcome for now, will try and get a closer macro on its compound eyes...

 

Taken with a 50mm Prime lens reversed with a reverse ring on macro extension tubes.

Flash is the AFD 360 flash mounted on a bracket to the left of the camera with a flash chord connected to the canon 550d body.
