Last night I set out to find a photo from 2012 that I liked better than this shot of a redwood forest in Marin County. If you've swum in my photostream you know that this is the third crop I've done of this image, and I think this is the one I like the most. Ever since I took and post-processed this image I knew this one was going to be hard to beat in terms of being my favorite of 2012. I think there's so much metaphor and symbolism here: the paradise-like lushness of the place, the bridge signifying progress over obstacles, the path leading into the unknown in the distance. All of these are things I loved about this photo. But besides all those, I just loved it visually and it was a perfect scene to process in the technique I've been working hard to improve at over the past year: HDR.
As I look forward to 2013 I am happy with what I see. I'm really excited to have finally put the finishing touches on a two-week trip to New Zealand in early February. I'll be spending the first part of my trip in a six-day workshop offered by a lesser-know :) photographer named Trey Ratcliff. Assisiting with the instruction and providing additional guidance and inspiration will be Karen Hutton and Scott Kublin. All three instructors are amazing artists, and I'm really looking forward to getting a few nuggets of experience and inspiration from each of them...all in a beautiful setting that was practically made to be photographed, painted or otherwise captured. It will be my first time in New Zealand and since NZ was on my short list of places to visit in the very near future, I'm happy to be crossing it off my list early in the year.
As the year comes to an end, I want to thank you all for your support, encouragement, friendship and inspiration. I wish you all a happy and safe New Year celebration and a wonderful start to 2013. And thank you all for making Flickr the amazing place that it is!
