Danco is a one-mile (1.6km) long island lies in the southern part of the Errera Channel, off the western coast of Graham Land. Danco Island was first chartered by Gerlache and is named for the geophysicist who died during the Belgica expedition of 1897-99. Gentoo penguins are confirmed breeders and there is a minimum breeding population of approximately 1700 pairs. Snow algae may bloom. Snowy sheathbills, kelp gulls, blue-eyed shags also may be seen, but breeding is not confirmed.
