定陵明樓 Soul Tower, Dingling Tomb (“Tomb of Stability”) / 中國北京明十三陵 Ming Tombs, Beijing, China / SML.20140501.6D.31526.P1.BW

Built in the 15th year of emperor Wanli (1587), the Soul Tower (明樓) is the symbol of the tomb. The structure and materials are similar to those of Yongling (永陵). It is an architecture with a hipped gable roof with brick arches inside. All the components, such as corbel brackets, tie-beams and eave-rafters are made of stone, with color paintings on the surface. Thus it looks exactly like a wooden structure. Inside the tower stands a stele which bears the inscription “the mausoleum of Emperor Shenzong of Great Ming” (神宗顯皇帝之陵).

Photographed with the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM. Situations like this makes me regret not putting the 17-40 on the camera. But it was so dusty and I did not want to change the lens out in the open…
