[145/365] Why can't a medium just be a medium?

I convinced J to buy me a shirt from our alma mater (by convince I mean I sent him an email with a link and wrote, "will you buy this for me?"). I ordered a medium knowing full well it would either fit like a glove or like spandex. Guess how it fits? When I first pulled it out of the box, I thought I received the kids' size. I don't even think one size larger will be big enough. That is if I ever motivate to exchange it. Oh, the green shirt peeking out from behind is a M from Threadless for scale.

Why can't there be some consistency with women's sizing, huh? Okay, rant over. And, go Dukes!
