Iran 2015: Dasht-e Lut desert crossing

In November 2015, a pioneering expedition team from Secret Compass became the first commercial group to trek across Iran's remote and harsh Dasht-y-Lut desert, also known as the Lut desert. These images will give you a taste of their epic desert journey.
Following in the footsteps of great explorers Marco Polo (north-south traverse in 1271) and Wilfred Thesiger (1964) the team was the first to cross this central desert on foot from east to west. Many thanks to team member photographers here for letting us use their images, including © Karen Wild and © Tina Papadopoulou and © Ian Wesley who retain all rights to their images.
You can join the expedition team in 2016 or beyond. Your route will encompass many different terrains, environments and desert features including kaluts, star dunes and dried out salt plains. Your challenges and obstacles will include massive sand dunes which rise to over 200m as well as one of the hottest, driest climates on earth (the Lut is home to the hottest point on the earth's surface, as recorded over several consecutive years in the last ten years).
Trekking all day, camping at night and met by 4x4 vehicles at night with water resupplies, this will be an arduous journey across very tough terrain which will serve to make your east-west traverse even more satisfying for everyone involved.
If you are fit and active and keen to achieve the extraordinary in one of the world's wildest places in 2016 or beyond, apply now to secure your team spot on the next exploratory expedition to the Lut desert with Secret Compass. www.secretcompass.com/expeditions/iran-desert-expedition/
