It was a dark and foggy night

On a Sunday night, after visiting a friend, I was informed that the METRA Chicago and Northwestern heritage unit was just a mile from me in Crystal Lake. I can't stay out late. Wait, there's now a dense fog advisory? Oh, yeah...I'm down for some noir!

I arrive at the Crystal Lake, IL METRA yard with Dan Frederickson, and we immediately go to work, capturing the scene. METX 90, in all of it's glory, is next to METX 148, the Northwestern Medicine (formerly Jimmy Johns) engine sits right next to it. I found it mildly ironic that both engines have "Northwestern" in their name, but one is about a railroad, and the other, hospitals and medical facilities.

They'll be working hard in the morning, but the fog and chilly air will give way to a brighter Monday. If I could have done this shot over, I would have put the camera even closer to the ground, to avoid having to chop off power lines. Yeah, I like my photos as natural as possible, But I did have to go monotone with this. It just brings out the fog and the mood so much better.
