πŸ‘¨πŸ³ Baker's Surprise πŸ—»πŸŒ

The Full Pink Moon rises over the "Sleeping Giant" (aka Mt. Baker), the International Border of Canada/U.S.A. and the bordertown of Blaine in Washington State πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

.

Looking southeast over Boundary Bay, the tip of Ocean Park in South Surrey on the left (with the White Rock Pier hiding behind it), over Semiahmoo Bay, to the shoreline of Blaine (20km/13mi away from where I stood), US Customs and Border Protection building on the left and the town of Blaine & Blaine Harbor Boating Center on the right, then beyond, over Lynden, WA to the majestic snow-capped Mt. Baker, 93km/58mi away.

.

Did you know that Mt. Baker is a glacier covered andestic stratovolcano? The last time it erupted was in 1880. It still shows signs of activity with steam plumes rising from Sherman Crater on cold clear days. It remains a potential hazard. 😳

.

Before it got too dark, I focused in on the slopes of Mt. Baker and left the camera's focus as-is while blue hour approached. I had tried earlier to focus on the town of Blaine as well but there was too much atmospheric noise from the bay which I assume was the cold air mixing with the warmth of the bay. The moon rose above just as planned but with a few clouds floating in front.
