Lyndhurst (Jay Gould estate) in Tarrytown, NY; Designed in 1838 by architect Alexander Jackson Davis for William Paulding Jr., it was expanded in 1864 by its second owner George Merritt, with the addition of the tower and north wing, also designed by Davis. Purchased by railroad magnate Jay Gould in 1880 and occupied by the family until its donation to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1961.
