Sugar & Spice pancake restaurant; Mendon, VT. The large boulder marks the grave of Brigadier General Edward H. Ripley's horse, "Old John", who served with him in the Civil War. The stone reads: “The Grave of Genl. Edw. H. Ripley’s ’Old John,’ A Gallant War Horse of the Great Civil War 1861-1865.”
