Bon Haven in Spartanburg, SC 1884-2017

Shame on the Cleveland family and the city of Spartanburg! This historic house is currently being demolished. These photos from September of 2014 show how intact the house was before it's destruction. The house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1884 by John B. Cleveland. Sadly, unlike their ancestor who gave much to the city of Spartanburg, the current members of the Cleveland family who own the house are more interested in their own profit, parting out the house for architectural salvage, and selling the property for new commercial development, while robbing the citizens of Spartanburg of one of the city's historic pieces of architecture. They also cashed out a trust that was established specifically for the care and maintenance of the house. Spartanburg city council also failed to approve an effort to save the building by adding it to the city's protected historic structures. An unnecessary and sad loss of a great historic home.
