Sampling the rosette
CTD rosettes are used to collect water samples from predetermined depths of the ocean. From Jim Swift: "the science
team is busy collecting water samples from their
chosen levels. There are up to 21 individual
water samples drawn from each 30-liter bottle,
some of which are up to 20 liters in volume, so
it can be necessary at times to close 3 of the
bottles at one level. Other times as few as 6-8
water samples are drawn from a bottle ... it's
all a matter of which science team needs water
from which level at which station."
