The wall and doorway dates from the 15th/16th century, the house behind the same though some say the house dates from the 13th century. The tower was strengthened and largely rebuilt in the early sixteenth century and rebuilt again in the 19th century . It remains the ancestral home of the Treffry family and is not open to the public.
in 1457 (or was it 1475) the French attacked the town and much of it including the church was set alight. Dame Elizabeth Treffry led her household in the defence of the house and kept the French out.
It seems the date of the French attack varies according to what and where i looked on the internet, the information according to St Fimbarrus Church says 1457, I suppose somewhere the last 2 digits were transposed
