I have been shooting a variation of this photo since the mid 90's. This was shot on a paper negative 8x10 using a Burke and James 8x10 and the monster Voigtländer Braunschweig Heliar 42 cm f/4.5 lens.
2 strobes metered at f/9 @ ISO 6. That's a lot of light! Developed in 1/2 strength developer for about 2 minutes.
The lens was set at f/8 and that only gives about 1 inch depth of field. The amount of detail on the scan of the paper negative is astounding. See the giant lens here:
