You will note that the angle of the pyramid slope changed during construction from an initial 54 degrees.
I understand this is because another pyramid (Meidum) with a similar angle had collapsed so the angle of this pyramid was deemed to be too steep.
Threfore, to prevent the masonry from being either overstressed or unstable, the builders reduced the angle for the remaining construction to 43 degrees.
Hence it is a 'bent' pyramid.
