Black Widow Spider

This HUGE (1.5") venomous spider was crawling in my garage! My roommate and I were able to capture him with great caution.

The black widow spider (Latrodectus spp.) is a spider notorious for its neurotoxic venom. It is a large widow spider found throughout the world and commonly associated with urban habitats or agricultural areas.

 

The southern black widow is primarily found (and is indigenous to) the southeastern United States, ranging from Florida to New York, and west to Texas and Oklahoma. Specimens have been found in California as well.
