Black-capped Chickadee
This chickadee was one of many that I encountered during a walk in Hillside Park. It seemed like each flock contained a few individuals who were engaging in vocal disputes with lots of gargle calls. I expect that juveniles, having dispersed from their natal territories, are trying to find homes in new flocks, and the previously territorial adults are adjusting to their neighbours' resumed role as flock mates. This one was perched low while its flock mates were up high in the surrounding oaks and willows. Something above certainly seems to have caught its attention: a rare moment with a chickadee standing still.
