Scott Summers, Cyclops. Deputy Leader and later Leader of the X-men. Scott has gone through a LOT of changes over the years, and most, like myself, would say not for the better. The writers kept wanting to go darker and darker until the character was so unlikable, it's like they HAD to go the Jason Todd route with him. But alas, even Jean didn't bring him back. Scott Summers, may he long rest in peace.
