Twist of Fate

On this year's chase we were very fortunate to witness the entire life cycle of this tornado, within a low-precipitation (LP) supercell which afforded a great view of everything without any rain getting in the way. According to many chasers, this was the top tornado of the season thus far. Very photogenic for sure! This shot is best appreciated LARGE.

A tornado beneath a massive low precipitation (LP) supercell churns across rural farmland in the plains of eastern New Mexico. This particular tornado, rated an EF-1, occurred near the small town of Floyd in May 2025. The tornado traveled over 5 miles in 17 minutes, leaving behind a trail of mangled utility poles. Fortunately no significant structures were in its path, limiting the amount of damage that resulted. Every summer severe thunderstorms like this one spawn hundreds of tornadoes across the Great Plains.
