Jesus Fish, Ichthys - Hand Carved, Handmade, Reclaimed Wood

This little guy just jumped out of the pond this morning! Actually, he's been made since the beginning of November. I never listed him because something wasn't quite right.

For whatever reason, he told me what the problem was this morning, and I "fixed him" by cutting a hole in the middle of him.

Now, he's right. :)

Ichthys is the ancient and classical Greek word for "fish". According to tradition, ancient Christians, during their persecution by the Roman Empire in the first few centuries after Christ, used the fish symbol to mark meeting places and tombs, or to distinguish friends from foes.

When a Christian met a stranger on the road, the Christian sometimes drew one arc of the simple fish outline in the dirt. If the stranger drew the other arc, both believers knew they were in good company.

Measures approximately 5" long, by 1 3/4" tall, by 1/2" deep.
