Some background on the toxic microalgae bloom that stayed along the south coast from the Coorong, Victor Harbor to Kangaroo Island to York Peninsula during the autumn months.

 

The micro-algae bloom is currently breaking up due to the early winter storms and the lower temperatures on the surface of the shallow coastal and gulf waters. The toxic micro-algae bloom has killed a lot of shell-fish, fish, seals, penguins and birds and also destroyed parts of the Great Southern Reef. However, the deeper waters around Kangaroo Island have not cooled
