Creation

As I rounded around the corner on HI-11, Mamalahoa Hwy, on that dark night in November, I could see this distinct faint orange glow in the horizon. At first, I thought it was the city lights from Hilo, the only major spot of civilization on this side of the island. But it was only a few minutes later that I realized that it was the glow from the volcanic crater of Kilauea crater within the confines of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

I tried to find the entrance to the park and about half hour later, I was at the crowded vista point of the Jaggar Museum that directly overlooks the crater, and the bright glow that emanated from it, just a few hundred yards from where I was.

The bright night sky shone on in the background, its million stars becoming tiny pinpricks of white and blue and orange twinkling across a black background. And underneath its magnificence lay the creation of new earth, of new matter, in the form of a volcano!

Shot it at ISO 3200 for 30s at 18mm and F5
