No. 16 glints in the morning sun

On the morning of Thursday 6 April 1972 No. 16 has placed some loaded wagons in the New Sidings next to the BR Blyth & Tyne lines and is returning light to the pit.

No. 16 (RSH7944/57) had arrived 'dead' from Bedlington 'A' on Thursday 30 September 1971 at about 14:00 in 9B20, loco 6804, along with a RH 0-6-0DE No. 27. The two locos were placed in 'The Square' sidings.

No. 16 entered traffic at Backworth in its black livery, lined red. She received an overhaul and repaint at the shed later that year and re-entered traffic in October 1972 in standard blue livery with N.C.B. on the tank sides.
