Project TOPAZ
This endeavor aims to vertically drill towards the center of the Earth to cause artificial volcanic eruptions and/or earthquakes. The energy released by these events is considerable. Note that the energy in Joules equals
1.74 x 10(5 + 1.44*M) with M being the Richter magnitude.
The deepest hole ever drilled by the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program was to 4.943 feet below the sea-floor in the Pacific Ocean off Costa Rica. IODP’s predecessor, the Ocean Drilling Program, reached 6.924 feet into the seafloor, also in the eastern Pacific Ocean. We will obviously focus our attention to American territory, where the crust of the Earth is comparatively thin so there will be significant yield of material.
(The gained volcanic material, expected to be mostly iron, might be used in conjunction with project SUNSTONE)
Should the generation of seismic activity prove to be successful, the collection of energy is likely to happen through hollow containers with variable volume which can be adapted to the eigenfrequency of the quake-event. The violent reverberations of the space are caught by a multitude of generators.
