Cannon Hill Lane / Springfield Avenue
There is a fanatstic account (see link below) from the BBC's WW2 Peoples War archive of the destruction a V1 Doddlebug caused on July1st /2nd 1944 from Margaret Leak who lived on Springfield Avenue. A V1 fell on the corner of Springfield Avenue and Cannon Hill Lane behind the three house on the left. Her brother remembers the tail pipe from the V1 still sticking out of the rubble. Sadly it claimed the life of John Bungard, aged 16, who was sheltering in the cupboard under the stairs of the middle house and the chimney stack collapsed on him when the house came down.
