This is an image from my first backpacking trip. The joy of wandering through majestic Patagonia, sleeping under the stars, waking to alpen glow, the taste of fresh glacial water, the whispers of the wind through the trees combined with the sounds of waterfalls all left me in complete awe of this place. On this particular hike we camped the night before to rest from the steep climb with our heavy gear. The next day we awoke well before dawn in order to traverse 3 miles in the dark through a boulder ravine. It took longer than we expected and when we finally arrived at this location realized that we still had another 400-600 ft of steep slope to traverse for the best vantage point for the shot. I was with my dear friend Steve Dondero. I realized I would only slow him down and cost us both the shot. We were running out of time. So I decided to shoot a different composition while Steve raced up the mountain slope with the agility of a mountain goat. I have shared my shot of this place earlier. When Steve gave me his shot to process it brought back memories of never ending hikes, innumerable drinks of mate, so many silly stories and countless laughs. Its such a pleasure to be able to create a visual that atleast in part can convey what was a truly unforgettable experience. This shot is inspired by the work of Marc Adamus and Ted Gore. If you have not already checked out their shots of this place, I urge you to do so. It was their work that inspired me to go on this trip :))
