If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it…
- John Irving.
Barring some of the rolling hills, most of Arkansas geography falls into the category of flood plains, which means many flat fields with precious few landscape photography subjects. So I always keep an eye out for interesting subjects whenever we are out on a drive. For example, on a recent trip to Ponca Township, we passed these two trees as the sun was setting. I noticed some rain clouds behind the trees and had a hunch that there would be exciting light. However, I have observed a quirk here in middle America that the light show often happens after sunset. Unlike the west coast, where the exciting light is often at sunset.
As soon as we parked, a burst of rain shower hit us and lasted for about 10 minutes. I almost gave up on the idea and got back on the road because of the rain, but the sky cleared up just as quickly, and warm pastel light started to hit the trees again. I liked the contrast between the warm tones and the blue tones in this image. Another lesson in the importance of patience in landscape photography.
