SRI LANKA GREEN CHILLIES CHALLANGE
Sri Lanka opposition United National Party (UNP) Matara District MP Buddika Pathirana eats green chilies as he takes part to raise funds for the people affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), in Colombo on September 11, 2014. The campaign launched locally called SL Amu Miris Challenge or Green Chillies Challenge to collect funds for kidney patients as against the infamous Ice Bucket Challenge. The one who accepts the challenge and eat three green chilies within two minutes have to donate Rs. 100 or any higher amount. If anyone failed to accept the challenge he would have to donate Rs. 1,000 or higher amount according to the rules. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) there are approximately 20,000 CKD patients undergoing care in the North Central Province (NCP), primarily in the most densely populated district of Anuradhapura, where the disease was first reported in 2000, recording the highest number of patients. According to WHO research the disease is spreading to the Southern, Uva and Eastern Provinces as well. (Pic by – Sanka Vidanagama)
