The Long Goodbye

Alzheimer's Disease is often referred to as ' the long goodbye '.

 

It is Alzheimer's Awareness Day here tomorrow. This is my humble offering, dedicated to those who know and perhaps love someone suffering from this cruel disease.

 

The Long Goodbye

 

You see my face, you see a stranger there,

I put the rosary in your hands,

I brush your hair.

I fix your bed and plump the pillows

and you smile;

‘Are you the Doctor?’ no Dad, it’s me.

And we continue on,

to be,

the best that we can be.

Another day,

another chapter in the Long Goodbye.
