Two Buttes

Hello Flickr! It's been a long time - over five months since I posted anything and over ten months since I took a photography trip and came back with a series of images to show here. I'm sorry for my absence - especially for missing many of your wonderful images. Life got complicated and stressful and that took all my energy for the last few months.

I'm back with the first of a series of storm images from my trip to Tornado Alley in May/June of this year. I did two storm chasing trips before the pandemic (2017 and 2018) and have been hoping to get back to it, but bad (well, bad for storms) weather forecasts stymied those attempts in 2022 and 2023. But in late May of 2024, with life disruptions finally dealt with, I headed out to the U.S. Great Plains to chase again. If you'd like, you can read about my trip in the blog post I just put up.

This image is from the second night of the trip - the end of the best day. This was the amazing LP (low precipitation) supercell we saw at night near Two Buttes, Colorado. Imagine standing in the pitch dark and seeing this behemoth lit up every time the lighting flashed. It was a pretty special night.

You can see all my storm chasing images from my three spring chases in this album.
