Restarting Sandia’s Molten Salt Test Loop
Sandia is restarting the Molten Salt Test Loop after damage from a major storm shut it down in 2017. The MSTL will provide a safe and reliable environment for industries to test components in flowing, molten nitrate salts at temperatures up to 600 degrees Celsius.
In the photo, Sandia solar researcher and project lead Kenneth Armijo stands next to the MSTL, the largest laboratory salt test loop in the world.
