22-FJ-18 STUDEBAKER Commander State Starliner Hardtop Coupe 1952

This is the same car as the one on the previous photos (check plate).

As you can see I was right on time. When I had finished my round the owner approached, opened the door and drove away. I did't spoke to him.

For model year 1952 the striking bullet nose grille was replaced by a more conventional grille which looked more like the 1947-1949 grille.

The 1952 Commander was designed by Loewy Studios with contributions of Robert Bourke under supervision of master Raymond Loewy (France, 1893-1986).

This hardtop coupe version with the wrap-around rear window was called Starliner (or Starlight). It was designed by Virgil M. Exner (1909-1973) then still working at Loewy Studios, and introduced for model year 1947.

The Commander Starliner Coupe was the second expensive car Studebaker could deliver. It was even more expensive than the big Commander Land Cruiser Sedan. Only the Commander Convertible Coupe was more expensive.
