Nilgiri Flycatcher

My first shot of a Near Threatened species, the Nilgiri Flycatcher. This is a bird found in a very restricted area in the hills of southern India. It is named after The Nilgiris (blue mountains), a range of mountains with at least 24 peaks above 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), in the westernmost part of Tamil Nadu state at the junction of Karnataka and Kerala states in Southern India. They are part of the larger Western Ghats mountain chain making up the southwestern edge of the Deccan Plateau. Like most flycatchers, the Nilgiri Flycatcher makes sallies to capture insects and returns to its perch. It forages mainly in the lower storey but can sometimes be found on top of the canopy. They perch upright and produce the chipping note while flicking the tail up and down. The breeding season is from March to June. It can sometimes be confused with the White-bellied Blue Flycatcher. I would have missed seeing this if it wasn't for my nephew who pointed it out to me. Not too good a shot though sharp thanks to the bird flying into the undergrowth to avoid being seen.
