Black-Naped Oriole (F)

Can you spot the Oriole? I was lucky to do so and get a good shot of it as well. Lucky because it is my first shot of this species. Their colour makes it very hard to spot them in the foliage. This is the first time I have noticed a Black-naped. Unlike the Golden Oriole which only has a short and narrow eye-stripe, the Black-naped Oriole has the stripe broadening and joining at the back of the neck. Males and females are very similar although the wing lining of the female is more greenish. So this specimen is a female. The bill is pink and is stouter than in the Golden Oriole. They are winter visitors to Kerala and are not often seen in large numbers anywhere but the north-east of the country. This is most probably the subspecies diffusus.
