The Thiruvangad temple in Thalassery, Kannur, contains some interesting sculptures and lithic records. The sculpture depicted is of Lord Rama, one of the most adored gods of Hindus who is known as an ideal man and hero of the epic Ramayana, an ancient Sanskrit epic considered as one of the most famous love stories of all time. Rama is always shown holding a bow and arrow indicating his readiness to destroy evils. He is pictured here with his wife Sita, brother Lakshman and devotee Hanuman, the mighty monkey deity seen sitting near Lord Rama's feet. Rama's life and journey is one of perfect adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time. He is pictured as the ideal man and the perfect human.
