LED Alphanumeric Bubble Display

The first digital watch I owned, back in 1975 or so, had a display similar to this only smaller and simpler. Modern LED displays have chunky, diffuse segments shaped like those in the diagram in this picture, or the displays in this one. This kind of display has little glowing filaments instead. The digits are tiny, so the package includes a magnifying lens over each one.

 

I'm excited to get these fired up. Their look is very retro-LED and to my little kid 1970s eyes they were magical.

 

Not sure when this one was manufactured - the only marking on it that resembles a date code implies that it was made in late 1992, which is possible but doesn't sound right.
