En la comarca de Los Monegros se estableció línea de frente desde casi el inicio de la guerra civil española. Allí, muy cerca de Alcubierre, combatió en los primeros días de 1937 el escritor George Orwell, voluntario en las milicias trotskistas del POUM. Desde ésta recuperada trinchera que domina la carretera que se dirige a Zaragoza podemos ver el mismo paisaje que durante semanas contempló, y vigiló, el propio Orwell. En 1938, fuera ya de España, publicó su “Homenaje a Cataluña”, y en 1949 -poco antes de morir de tuberculosis- acabó su obra mas famosa: “1984”.
In the region of Los Monegros, a front line was established from almost the beginning of the Spanish civil war. There, very close to Alcubierre, the writer George Orwell, a volunteer in the Trotskyist militias of the POUM, fought in the first days of 1937.
