Holy Cow! - Ramblings from this Salmon River NY Steelhead Fishing Drift Boat Guide:
My guest's have been playing with lots of fish, everyday off the drift boat, in every spot, on the Slam'n Salmon River. Guide Tip - We have predominately been fishing Habitat that is a "Combination" of Prime Transitional Holding and Prime Non-Transitional Holding.

Lot's of folks out enjoying this great weather and fishing. Smiles abound! Local economy getting it's largest influence of business for the year. From the waitress's, bartenders, the guy who pumps your gas, the convenient store clerk's, tackle shops, lodges, guides, fish cleaners, etc...
We all thank you, for spending your valuable fishing $$ up here!!
Few anglers going for a swim while fighting there fish. Watched an excited youngster lose his fish on the bank and then dive into the shallow water. Wrapping his arms and legs around the fish as he rolled around in the water and happily giving it a bear hug :)
Lots of fish around! Thousand's of Salmon have entered the Salmon River NY over the last 2 month and are spread out from the top all the way to the bottom of the Slam'n Salmon River, Altmar - Pulaski NY.
Load's of fish in the Estuary, stacking up, entering, running and spreading out over the entire length of the Slam'n Salmon River. With many many more to come!
Everyday in the lower river anglers have had either a dead, slow, ok, not bad, steady, pretty good or reeeeeelly good # of Salmon (w/ a few Trout) entering the River. Everyday over the entire length of the Slam'n Salmon River these King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Steelhead and Brown Trout are in 3 specific places.

Lil Guide Tip: (specific places)
Approx. % of fish my guest's and I are visually seeing and counting in each type of Habitat, over most of the river, daily, off my drift boat.
Transitional Stage - Where the fish rest at temporarily while in a transitional mode (running the river). Lately, evening's have been more productive then morning's.
20% Prime Transitional Holding - Where the fish will hold for the entire day (usually mid-day) after they have stopped running that morning.
-
75% Prime Non-Transitional Holding - Where they will sit for an extended period of time (days and sometimes an entire month) before there biological clock tells them to find a mate and special rock.
5% on that special rock. Seeing a lil more activity everyday.
