Fall (154/365)

This is a grass, of weed of some kind. All summer the leaves were green, and the flowers on top were purple. Now the colors are gone, and the flowers are withered. Fall is here, and soon winter will surprise us.

Good thing I've got the winter tires ready :)

Lighting

I am actually quite proud of how I lit this. We have a small heating stove in our living room, which is enclosed by three brick walls, one of the concealing the chimney. All of the walls are primed white which makes good reflectors.

First I put the grass on the stove. Then I put one flash on a stack of DVDs next to the stove and pointed it at the wall, which would become my backdrop. I ensured that the stove would flag the flash from the plant, so that the leaves would stay dark. I thought this would be enought, but there was quite a bit of falloff at the top of the frame. After a few failed attempts I put a second flash on the stove and pointed it up at the falloff area. This was what it took. Both flashes were triggered with Cactus V4 radio triggers.
