Los limones....

.

During the month of November and just before the first hard freeze we begin a long time ritual. Clean out the greenhouse and bring in all the tropical plants accumulated over a number of years. The need to protect a collection of plants from our rigid weather is more than a necessity; more than a task required by the tropical's normally scattered about the place in large containers to provide ample are for growing. It is almost a festival among our family; though the members have dwindle to less than a dozen; we start out by attending to our mom's place and bring in her collection of begonias, lemon and orange trees planted longer than I care to remember...

Next in line we congregate in our house; have an early breakfast and later proceed to carefully bring one at a time our lemon, mandarins, oranges and grapefruit trees amassed over the years through our own purchase or gifted by to her family members long gone...There's the lemon tree my mom gave us in our first wedding anniversary; the mandarin my sister brought in and left out in our entrance with a tag "Leave out when you don't want any visitors" Lol... She was a sweetheart!
