Burr Oak's Future
One of my brothers showed up at my house one day with two gifts; one was a barely recognizable tree (about two feet tall) which later I learned was a Burr Oak; the other gift was a beer; he said: “I’m here to plant this tree in your yard as a gift from me to you” (very matter of fact) and so we dug a decent size hole in the ground filled it with select material all in a matter of an hour while enjoying the other hand’s gift. My brother has been gone for several years and every Fall I look at the tree as it bears some of it's future in these beautiful acorns. Somehow I think my brother is there watching after the tree to make sure his future is well taken care and the memory of a very special day also.
Since, I have planted another Burr Oak directly across as if to keep the first company so the first one is not by himself especially the Fall where things seem to lay down and prepare for a whole new rejuvenating season. Deep down in my heart is my way of keeping that moment alive while watching these two grow….
Now you see why I call these acorns “Burr Oak’s future”…
Uno de mis hermanos se presento en mi casa un día con dos regalos; uno era un árbol apenas reconocible por su tamaño; (apenas un medio metro de altura) más tarde aprendí que el árbol se llama Burr Oak; en la otra mano tenía una cerveza y me dice; “Estoy aquí para plantar este árbol como un regalo de mi parte (con mucha seriedad) por lo tanto escarbamos un hoyo de buen tamaño le pusimos buen material propio para plantar este árbol mientras ambos disfrutamos de su otro regalo. Mi falleció hace varios años y cada Otoño veo su árbol colarse de hermosas bellotas. En cierta forma se que él está ahí cuidando de su árbol y asegurándose de su cuidado y de el recuerdo de ese día tan especial.
Desde entonces yo he plantado otro Burr Oak a un lado enfrente del primero para que le haga compañía y así no este solo especialmente durante esta temporada de otoño cuando todo parece prepararse para un largo sueño invernal y así estar listo para una estación de rejuvenecimiento. Desde de mi corazón es mi forma de mantener ese momento vivo mientras veo los dos árboles crecer…
